Free Tax Help Through VITA

Hawaii State FCU is collaborating with Goodwill Hawaii to offer free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services to eligible members.
The program is staffed by IRS-certified volunteers who provide basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified members.

Eligibility Criteria
Must meet at least one of the following:
• People who generally make $67,000 or less annually
• Persons with disabilities
• Limited English-speaking taxpayers
• Senior citizens (kupuna)
How to Register

- Please make individual appointments for each tax filer in the household that will need tax preparation assistance.

Tax assistance service is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 11 – April 3, 2025.
Appointments are based on availability and are scheduled between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Whether or not you are required to file a federal income tax return depends on your filing status, your age, your income, your dependency status, and whether you meet a few other special requirements. Click here to determine whether you need to file.
If you or your household earned $67,000 or less in 2024 and do not own a home or business, you should qualify to receive free tax preparation assistance from Goodwill.
No. All tax filings prepared at Goodwill Hawaii’s tax clinics statewide are done free of charge. You keep your entire tax refund.
- Proof of identification (acceptable forms of ID include a valid driver’s license, passport, or state ID)
- Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents
- An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter may be substituted for you, your spouse and your dependents if you do not have a Social Security number
- Proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN
- Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
- Wage and earning statements (Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R,1099-Misc) from all employers
- Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
- All Forms 1095, Health Insurance Statements
- Health Insurance Exemption Certificate, if received
- A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available
- Proof of bank account routing and account numbers for direct deposit such as a blank check
- To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms
- Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider’s tax identifying number such as their Social Security number or business Employer Identification Number
- Forms 1095-A, B or C, Affordable Health Care Statements
- Copies of income transcripts from IRS and state, if applicable
Yes, parking is available at the Goodwill parking lot on the second level. Enter the parking area on Young Street and drive up the ramp. The Goodwill office is also located on the second level.
